**Sivaganga, March 20, 2025** – A fast-track court in Sivaganga sentenced a woman, Kannathal (40), and her accomplice, Karthick Raja (48), to life imprisonment for the infanticide of Kannathal’s one-year-old daughter, Muneeswari. The pair were found guilty of drowning the child in a water tank in Sanarenthal village in October 2014.
The court heard that Kannathal, facing marital difficulties, had an affair with Karthick Raja, who subsequently rejected the resulting child. Kannathal, unwilling to lose Raja, then murdered her daughter. Both were arrested following a police complaint and investigation by Ilayankudi police.
Judge Gogul Murugan, presiding over the Fast Track Mahila Court, delivered the verdict, sentencing both accused to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,000 each. The Sivaganga Superintendent of Police praised the investigating officers for securing justice. The case highlights the devastating consequences of societal pressures and personal conflicts, underscoring the critical need for child protection and effective law enforcement.
