**New Delhi, March 21, 2025** – National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), India’s state-run iron ore miner, announced the resumption of normal operations at all its projects following a two-week-long worker protest. The employees returned to work on March 20th, ending a slowdown that began on March 6th.
The protest, initiated by worker unions over wage revisions, involved a “work-to-rule” strategy. While negotiations were underway and an agreement had been reached between the unions and NMDC management, the company reported a production slowdown on March 9th. Following the Federation of Unions’ call for a full return to work, NMDC expects to achieve its production target of 45 million tonnes in fiscal year 2025.
The news of the resumed operations saw NMDC shares rise by 1.47%, closing at ₹67.49 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday. The agreement on wage settlement is now awaiting confirmation from the steel ministry.
