Fri Mar 21 14:03:09 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Police File FIR Against Mystery Litterer Caught on Camera
**Mysuru, March 21, 2025** – In a significant move to combat public littering, the Alanahalli police in Mysuru have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against an unidentified individual for dumping garbage on Bannur Main Road. The incident, which occurred on March 17th around 10 PM near Cauvery Hospital, was captured on video by a municipal worker.
The video shows the individual, who arrived in a car, discarding a bag of trash despite being asked by a pourakarmika (sanitation worker), Raju, to wait for the garbage collection vehicle. Raju’s quick thinking in recording the incident, including the car’s license plate number, led to the filing of the complaint by Lokeshwari, an environment engineer with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
The litterer, in the recorded video, attempted to justify his actions by claiming a delay in garbage collection. However, Raju advised him to report the delay to the authorities instead of resorting to illegal dumping.
Police have charged the individual under Section 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which penalizes acts endangering public health and safety. The MCC’s action comes as Mysuru prepares for the Swachh Survekshan-2025 cleanliness ranking, aiming to reclaim its past title as India’s cleanest city. Recent increases in littering, particularly along the outer ring road, have prompted a city-wide crackdown.
This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and strict enforcement in maintaining cleanliness, serving as a warning to others considering similar actions. The MCC continues to appeal to residents for their cooperation in keeping Mysuru clean.
