Thu Mar 20 21:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Bournemouth Star Huijsen Unfazed by Potential Netherlands Clash in Nations League

**Rotterdam, Netherlands** – Dean Huijsen, the 19-year-old Bournemouth defender, has declared he will have no regrets about switching his international allegiance from the Netherlands to Spain, even if he never plays for the Spanish national team. Huijsen, who moved to Spain at age five and recently obtained Spanish citizenship, is in contention to make his senior debut for Spain in their upcoming Nations League quarter-final clash against his birth country, the Netherlands.

Speaking to *The Athletic*, Huijsen stated, “I feel Spanish, Spain is my home. If Spain doesn’t call me up, I will continue to be Spanish… I don’t care. I feel Spanish and I want to play for Spain.” He has already featured seven times for Spain’s under-21 side.

Huijsen’s call-up to the senior squad follows an injury to Barcelona’s Íñigo Martínez. While there was speculation the Netherlands might attempt to re-recruit him, FIFA regulations prevent such a switch.

The young defender’s impressive season with Bournemouth, currently 10th in the Premier League, has attracted interest from top European clubs. Huijsen, who cites Sergio Ramos as his idol, expressed pride in the speculation.

The two-legged Nations League quarter-final kicks off in Rotterdam on Thursday, with the return leg in Valencia on Sunday. The winner advances to face either Croatia or France in the semi-finals.
