Fri Mar 21 17:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Third Ashra of Ramadan Begins in Safdarjung, Offering Hope of Salvation

**NEW DELHI** – The third Ashra (ten-day period) of Ramadan began on the 20th day of the holy month in Safdarjung, marking a significant time for Muslims. According to Islamic beliefs, this final Ashra is considered the time of salvation from Jahannam (hellfire).

The Imam of the Safdarjung Markaz Masjid explained that Ramadan is divided into three Ashras: the first of Rahmat (mercy), the second of Maghfirat (forgiveness), and the third, the current one, dedicated to seeking salvation from hellfire. This period also includes Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power, believed to be one of the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, or 27th) of Ramadan, when prayers are said to be especially accepted by God.

Many devotees are engaging in Itikaf, a spiritual retreat where they remain in the mosque for extended periods of worship, often up to nine days, culminating before Eid. The Imam stressed that this is the most important Ashra of Ramadan, urging Muslims to devote themselves to prayer and supplication during this time.
