**Dubai, March 20, 2025** – Sudan’s state television reported Thursday that the Sudanese army is on the verge of seizing the Presidential Palace in Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group. This development marks a potential turning point in the two-year-old conflict that has devastated the country.

Heavy clashes erupted near the palace late Wednesday, with witnesses reporting explosions and army airstrikes targeting central Khartoum. While the RSF currently controls much of western Sudan and parts of Khartoum, the army has been regaining territory in central Sudan.

The conflict began in April 2023 following a 2021 coup that derailed Sudan’s transition to civilian rule. The war has created what the UN describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with both sides accused of severe human rights abuses.
