**WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI** – A large fire ripped through an apartment complex near 27 Mile and Van Dyke in Washington Township Wednesday morning, displacing multiple families. Chopper 7 footage showed flames engulfing the roof of several units.

According to residents, the fire erupted suddenly. “We woke up and just saw a fireball,” said Cody McKinney, a resident of the complex. McKinney described seeing firefighters arrive and rescue residents from the burning building.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed their assistance at the scene on Stony Drive. While the fire investigation unit is working to determine the cause, thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Washington Township Supervisor Sebastian Previti announced on Facebook that the fire impacted eight units and numerous families. The township is now actively collecting donations to aid those affected. Needed items include non-perishable food, clothing, blankets, toys, pet food, and gift cards. Donations can be dropped off at Washington Township Hall, located at 57900 Van Dyke, Washington, MI. Large bins have been placed in the Supervisor’s office for easy donation access.
