**BRUCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2)** – A dramatic carjacking and subsequent police chase concluded with the arrest of Michael Southworth on Sunday, March 16th. The incident began around 3:50 p.m. at a Mobil gas station on 24 Mile Road and Shelby Road in Shelby Township. Authorities say Southworth smashed the driver’s side window of a white Cadillac sedan and stole the vehicle.
The ensuing pursuit, captured on video, involved officers from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police. The chase proceeded northbound on M-53 in Washington Township before Southworth lost control of the stolen Cadillac and crashed into a field north of 34 Mile Road.
Upon exiting the vehicle, Southworth allegedly brandished a long gun and disregarded police commands. A Michigan State Police officer subsequently fired their weapon. Southworth was then apprehended without further incident.
He was arraigned on Wednesday on unspecified charges (the original text omitted the specific charges) and given a $1 million cash and surety bond. Southworth remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office provided information for this report.
