**Kolkata, West Bengal, March 19, 2025** – Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir has pledged to adhere to party discipline following a meeting with the party’s disciplinary committee. The committee summoned Kabir for provocative remarks he made on March 12th in response to comments by BJP Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Adhikari, on March 11th, reportedly threatened to expel Muslim TMC legislators from the West Bengal Assembly if the BJP gained power. Kabir’s subsequent response included threats against Adhikari and a defense of his community. While initially defiant, Kabir now states he will be “vigilant and aware” in observing party discipline.

The disciplinary committee, comprised of senior TMC leaders, advised Kabir against using public forums to express dissent and reminded him of his constitutional oath. State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay reported that Kabir agreed to consult the committee before voicing future complaints. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP in West Bengal.
