Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh – March 19, 2025 – Kakinada City police apprehended a suspended probationary officer of the Chaitanya Godavari Grameen Bank (CGGB), Chitikela Nageswara Rao (33), thwarting a planned ATM robbery. Police recovered two pistols and 17 bullets from Rao, who had allegedly acquired the weapons in Bihar to target ATMs in Visakhapatnam or along the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border.
Rao’s suspension from CGGB stems from a previous incident where he allegedly stole 900 grams of gold mortgaged by bank customers while working in West Godavari district. He is also accused of fraudulently withdrawing ₹2.3 lakh from a bank ATM using a stolen passcode. Police investigations reveal Rao’s involvement in four prior house burglary cases.
Kakinada SP G. Bindu Madhav stated that Rao stole the gold to fund gambling activities. Local sources tipped off the police, leading to Rao’s arrest. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
