**Lansing, MI** – Tudor Dixon, Michigan businesswoman, conservative commentator, and the 2022 Republican gubernatorial nominee, announced Tuesday that she is seriously considering a 2026 run for statewide office. While undecided on whether to challenge for the governorship or the open Senate seat, Dixon stated her primary motivation is serving Michigan. “I want to do the most good for our beloved state. That’s why I’m considering a run for governor or U.S. Senate,” she said in a social media statement.
Dixon’s decision comes as several other candidates have already entered the fray. On the Republican side, State Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt is vying for the governor’s office, a seat vacated due to term limits on current Governor Gretchen Whitmer. For the Senate seat, currently held by retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters, former Representative Mike Rogers is expected to announce his candidacy soon, having already secured veteran strategist Chris LaCivita as a senior advisor. Other Republicans considering a Senate run include Representatives John James and Bill Huizenga.
The Democratic field is also developing. Several candidates have announced their bids for governor, including Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is running as an independent. On the Senate side, State Senator Mallory McMorrow is a likely contender, along with Attorney General Dana Nessel and Congresswoman Haley Stevens. Former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has ruled out a Senate run.
Dixon’s 2022 gubernatorial campaign, endorsed by President Donald Trump, ended in a ten-point loss to Governor Whitmer. Dixon expressed continued support for Trump’s “America First” agenda, suggesting her potential candidacy will align with that platform. The upcoming 2026 elections promise to be highly competitive, with both the governor’s and Senate races attracting significant attention and a diverse range of candidates.
