Wed Mar 19 11:40:52 UTC 2025: ## Puducherry Extends ₹1,000 Monthly Allowance to Yellow Ration Card Holding Women

**Puducherry, March 19, 2025** – The Puducherry government announced a ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance program for women heads of families holding yellow ration cards. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy made the announcement during his Budget reply in the Legislative Assembly.

This expansion builds upon a pre-existing scheme providing ₹1,000 monthly to women heads of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families aged 21-54, not covered by other welfare programs. The 2025-26 budget increased this amount to ₹2,500 for BPL families, a decision welcomed by legislators. Responding to requests to extend the benefit to Above Poverty Line (APL) women, the government opted to provide a ₹1,000 allowance to all women heads of families holding yellow ration cards.

Rangasamy expressed the government’s commitment to fulfilling all budget promises and exploring revenue-generating options without burdening the public. He cited the development of land in Sedarapet-Karasur for industrial purposes, including IT and pharma parks and start-ups, as an example of such initiatives.
