**Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, March 19, 2025** – Prakasam district’s innovative “Bangaru Balyam” initiative has received the prestigious national-level SKOCH Award for its significant strides in preventing child marriages and bonded labor. The program, spearheaded by District Collector A. Thameem Ansaria, has garnered national recognition as Prakasam district holds the unfortunate distinction of having the highest rate of child marriages in the state.

The “Bangaru Balyam” program, which translates to “Golden Childhood,” distinguishes itself through its collaborative approach, engaging the public and various voluntary organizations. The district administration’s success was validated through a rigorous selection process involving presentations, public opinion, and expert evaluations. Collector Ansaria will formally receive the award at an upcoming ceremony in New Delhi.

Social Welfare Minister Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy lauded Collector Ansaria’s efforts, praising the program’s effectiveness in combating child marriages. He emphasized the award’s significance as a source of pride for the entire district.

In a related development, the swift intervention of the district authorities, acting on Collector Ansaria’s instructions, resulted in the rescue of seven families trapped in bonded labor. These 33 individuals, including pregnant and lactating women, were working in an oil palm plantation in Palnadu district after being exploited by their employer. Following their rescue, the families received relief certificates, essential supplies, and assurances of continued support, including government financial assistance and vocational training. The Collector has further instructed district officials to ensure the families’ long-term livelihood security.
