Wed Mar 19 13:28:10 UTC 2025: ## Tirunelveli Aims to Double Aavin Milk Procurement
**TIRUNELVELI, March 19, 2025** – Tirunelveli district is implementing a comprehensive plan to significantly increase milk procurement by Aavin, the state-run dairy cooperative, to meet rising consumer demand. Currently, Aavin procures 32,000 liters of milk daily, a figure the district administration aims to double to 70,000 liters.
District Collector R. Sukumar announced the initiative following a review meeting. The plan involves establishing new milk producer cooperative societies in every revenue village. Farmers who join will receive weekly payments directly into their bank accounts, along with a monthly incentive of ₹3 per liter. The administration also plans to offer loans to farmers for increasing milk production through cooperative societies and nationalized banks, in addition to facilitating milk animal insurance.
The initiative aims to counter competition from private milk firms that offer higher prices and incentives to producers. While acknowledging the challenges posed by summer’s impact on milk production and the lure of higher private sector offers, officials remain committed to ensuring adequate milk supply to consumers at the current subsidized rate of ₹16 per liter. The Collector has personally appealed to farmers to supply their milk to Aavin during his rural outreach programs.
