Wed Mar 19 07:33:17 UTC 2025: ## Chennai to Face Six-Day Water Shortage Due to Desalination Plant Maintenance
**Chennai, March 19, 2025** – Residents of several South Chennai neighbourhoods will experience a six-day disruption in piped water supply starting March 21st, 2025. The shutdown is due to scheduled maintenance at the Nemmeli desalination plant, which will undergo repairs to boost its 110-million-litre-a-day production capacity.
Areas affected include Tiruvanmiyur, Kottivakkam, Perungudi, Palavakkam, Vettuvankeni, Karapakkam, Okkiam Thoraipakkam, Neelankarai, Sholinganallur, Uthandi, and Injambakkam (Zones 13, 14, and 15). Water supply will be limited to alternate days during this period.
Chennai Metrowater has advised residents to store sufficient water and utilize their online water tanker booking service. While street water supply will continue, the disruption is expected to significantly impact the affected areas. The maintenance is expected to conclude on March 26th.
