Wed Mar 19 13:11:44 UTC 2025: **Thoothukudi City to See Major Infrastructure Improvements**
**Thoothukudi, March 19, 2025** – Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation Mayor N.P. Jegan announced a series of infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city’s roads, public spaces, and recreational facilities. Speaking at a weekly grievances redressal meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Jegan stated that all pending road works will be sanctioned by April, with completion of road relaying and restoration by June.
Key improvements include the transformation of the Ashe Memorial into a senior citizens’ park, mirroring the successful “Aayiram Pirai Poonga” park in the north zone. The construction of paver block platforms along main roads aims to ease traffic congestion and provide better public convenience. Traders are urged to cooperate with this initiative.
Further projects include the development of a pedestrian pathway and artificial fountain around the Sankara Rameswarar Temple tank. The corporation also plans to convert vacant lands into sports grounds, with the reclaimed SAV School ground near the old bus stand being developed into a sports ground with a gallery. Future plans include the construction of a new swimming pool and an additional walkway on Beach Road. Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan was also present at the meeting.
