**Chennai, March 18, 2025** – Over 4,500 principals in Tamil Nadu have invited the School Education Minister, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, to their schools as part of a 100-day reading challenge aimed at improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills.
The initiative, launched in November 2024, follows a visit by the Minister to a school where students’ abilities were successfully tested. The voluntary program focuses on enhancing reading and arithmetic skills in Tamil and English. Participating schools have been training their students since November.
According to the School Education Department, the challenge aims to counter claims that Tamil Nadu students lack proficiency in reading and arithmetic. The program’s first phase is set to conclude in the first week of April with a public challenge to assess student progress. District Education Officers will provide guidance and support to schools participating in the initiative.
