**New Delhi, March 19, 2025** – Prime Minister of New Zealand, Christopher Luxon, visited IIT Delhi today to solidify academic collaborations between New Zealand and India. The visit culminated in the announcement of a NZD 60,000 scholarship package under the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025, and a new virtual internship program offering 30 IIT Delhi students remote work experience with New Zealand companies.
The event celebrated the New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi, a collaborative initiative bringing together all New Zealand universities. The partnership focuses on joint research in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, disaster resilience, and advanced engineering, with a highlighted project leveraging geospatial data for climate change mitigation between the University of Canterbury and IIT Delhi.
Further strengthening the partnership, New Zealand and Indian institutions are poised to sign multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to expand student mobility, joint research, and academic exchange.
Prime Minister Luxon emphasized the reciprocal nature of the education partnership, stating its commitment to equipping students with global skills. IIT Delhi Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, highlighted the importance of global collaborations for driving innovation and research excellence.
The event, attended by dignitaries from both countries and notable alumni, underscored the strong academic and cultural ties between New Zealand and India.
