Wed Mar 19 06:13:57 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Assembly Walkout Over Police Transfer Controversy

**Thiruvananthapuram, March 19, 2025** – The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) staged a walkout from the Kerala Assembly today after Speaker A.N. Shamseer rejected their adjournment motion concerning the transfer of two Thalassery police officers. The officers were involved in the arrest of CPI(M) workers accused of attacking police during the Manolikkavu temple festival.

The Speaker ruled that the motion did not meet the criteria for urgent public importance under Rule 50, offering instead to allow a submission on the matter. Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan rejected this, accusing the Speaker of preventing discussion on issues where the government lacks answers.

Congress legislator Sunny Joseph had initiated the motion, arguing that the transfers undermined police morale. Mr. Satheesan further alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan avoided the issue during Monday’s Home department discussions, suggesting the government was shielding CPI(M) members. He claimed the transfers were meant to discourage police action against party affiliates involved in criminal activities. The Opposition demanded the government withdraw the transfer orders and support the affected officers.
