Wed Mar 19 09:56:03 UTC 2025: ## History-Sheeter Hacked to Death in Erode
**ERODE, March 19, 2025** – A 35-year-old history-sheeter, John alias Chanakya, was murdered in broad daylight on Wednesday in Nasiyanur, Erode district, on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway. The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. while John and his wife were returning from Salem to Tiruppur.
An eight-member gang, traveling in two cars, rammed John’s vehicle and attacked him with machetes, resulting in his death at the scene. His wife, Saranya, sustained hand injuries while attempting to intervene and is hospitalized.
Police responded swiftly, engaging the gang in a shootout. Four suspects were apprehended with injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Perundurai, before being transferred to Coimbatore GH. Four others escaped. The identities of the accused are yet to be released.
John, a resident of Salem, had a criminal record including attempted murder charges. He recently relocated to Tiruppur to operate a vehicle loan finance company. He had been to Salem’s Annadanapatti police station for routine legal procedures before the attack.
The Erode Superintendent of Police, G. Jawahar, oversaw the crime scene investigation. The Chithode police have sent John’s body to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The investigation is ongoing.
