Wed Mar 19 16:59:33 UTC 2025: ## Telangana High Court Quashes Criminal Case Against BRS Leader K.T. Rama Rao
**Hyderabad, March 19, 2025** – The Telangana High Court on Wednesday quashed a criminal case against K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The case, stemming from alleged objectionable comments made against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the social media platform X, was dismissed by Justice K. Lakshman.
The judge ruled that the First Information Report (FIR) lacked the necessary elements to support the charges against KTR. The sections invoked were related to a non-cognizable offense punishable only by a fine, requiring a private complaint in court rather than the registration of an FIR. Despite this, the investigating officer obtained permission from a Magistrate before registering the case.
KTR’s counsel also argued that the X account from which the comments were allegedly posted was no longer active.
While quashing the case, Justice Lakshman cautioned politicians against using derogatory and abusive language against their opponents. This ruling contrasts with a previous decision where a similar petition by Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind was dismissed.
