**KOCHI, March 19, 2025** – The Kerala High Court has rejected a plea for a fresh investigation into the death of Swami Saswathikananda, the former head of Sivagiri Madhom. The court dismissed the petition filed by the All Kerala Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Protection Council, which sought a re-investigation overseen by an officer of Inspector General rank or higher.

Swami Saswathikananda, allegedly drowned while bathing in the Periyar river near Aluva on July 1, 2002. Multiple investigations, including one by the local police, the Ernakulam (Rural) Superintendent of Police, and a 2007 government-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), all concluded that the death was accidental drowning.

Justice Kauser Edappagath, in dismissing the petition, noted the consistency of findings across all investigations, citing post-mortem reports and a chemical analysis that supported the drowning conclusion. The judge stated that no evidence suggested homicide, rendering further investigation unnecessary.
