**KASARAGOD, March 17, 2025** – The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has received a significant boost to its infrastructure with a ₹52.68 crore grant from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs. The funds, allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), will be used to construct a new five-story academic block at the university’s Periya campus.

The new building, covering 7,497 square meters, will feature 25 classrooms, five departmental libraries, computer labs, and modern amenities including lifts and accessible toilets. Environmentally conscious design incorporates a 50-kilowatt solar power plant and a 1 lakh-litre rainwater harvesting tank. A 300-seat seminar hall will also be included.

This represents the largest single financial allocation the university has received from a ministry outside of the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Minority Affairs previously granted ₹38.23 crore in 2019-20 for hostel construction, resulting in the inauguration of boys’ and girls’ hostels in June 2023.

Vice Chancellor in charge, Vincent Mathew, expressed his gratitude for the continued support from the central government, stating that the new academic block is vital for launching new programs in the coming years.
