Mon Mar 17 18:17:29 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru BBMP Extends Property Tax Amnesty to Government Buildings
**Bengaluru, March 18, 2025** – The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced an extension of its One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for outstanding property taxes, specifically targeting government buildings and public sector undertakings (PSUs). The scheme, effective until March 31st, allows these entities to pay only the principal amount of their outstanding dues from 2019-20 onwards, with a minimal penalty of ₹100 and zero interest.
This move follows the BBMP’s earlier plans to issue recovery notices for significant unpaid service charges, including a ₹6.3 crore debt owed by the Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat. While the BBMP generally maintains that government buildings should pay service charges instead of property taxes, many institutions have accumulated unpaid dues since the BBMP’s formation in 2008.
The OTS offers these entities a significant reprieve, avoiding potentially much higher costs due to compounded interest and penalties. Failure to settle outstanding dues by the March 31st deadline will result in double taxation from April 2025. The BBMP has urged all eligible government entities to take advantage of this scheme before the deadline.
