Mon Mar 17 08:47:42 UTC 2025: ## VCK Seeks More Seats in DMK Alliance for 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
**Villupuram, Tamil Nadu –** The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a key member of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, is seeking a larger share of seats in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. VCK founder and Chidambaram MP Thol. Thirumavalavan announced this on Sunday, March 16th, during a celebration marking the party’s recognition as a state party by the Election Commission of India.
While emphasizing the VCK’s commitment to the Secular Progressive Alliance, Thirumavalavan stated that the party would negotiate for more seats. He clarified that the VCK would not consider alliances that only offer increased seats without other considerations. He recounted the party’s history, highlighting its initial reluctance to contest elections and its evolution into a significant political force, triggered by violence against Dalits.
The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including Minister for Forests K. Ponmudy, MDMK founder Vaiko, and leaders from the CPI(M) and CPI. Thirumavalavan dedicated the party’s newfound status to the VCK members who suffered injuries during past election-related violence.
