**Ayodhya, India –** The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, responsible for the construction and management of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has remitted approximately ₹400 crore (US$48.4 million) in taxes to the Indian government over the past five years, Trust Secretary Champat Rai announced on Sunday. This sum, paid between February 5, 2020, and February 5, 2025, includes ₹270 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST) and ₹130 crore in other taxes.

The substantial tax payments coincide with a dramatic surge in religious tourism to Ayodhya. Rai reported a tenfold increase in devotees and tourists, transforming the city into a major religious tourism hub and creating numerous jobs for local residents. He cited the Maha Kumbh, which drew 1.26 crore (12.6 million) devotees, and highlighted Ayodhya’s impressive visitor count of 16 crore (160 million) in the last year alone, with 5 crore (50 million) visiting the Ram temple itself.

Rai further stated that the Trust’s financial records undergo regular audits by officials from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
