**New York, NY – March 17, 2025** – New York City police are investigating a disturbing incident where a 45-year-old man was set on fire near Times Square early Sunday morning. The attack occurred around 3:55 a.m. near West 41st Street and 7th Avenue.
Responding officers extinguished the flames before transporting the victim to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Police believe the victim and his assailant are known to each other, but have not released further details pending the ongoing investigation.
Video footage from the scene shows the victim, shirtless, walking with firefighters after the fire was put out. The footage also shows the extent of his injuries, which include burns to his face, neck, chest, and arms.
This incident follows a similar case in December 2024, where Debrina Kawam, 57, died after being set on fire on a New York subway train. Sebastian Zapeta, 33, has been charged with murder and arson in that case and has pleaded not guilty. The NYPD is urging anyone with information regarding Sunday’s attack to contact them immediately.
