**Jerusalem** – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to dismiss Ronen Bar, the head of the Shin Bet domestic security agency, citing a lack of trust. The move, expected to be finalized in a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday, comes in the wake of the October 7th Hamas attack and has sparked intense political controversy.

While the government statement points to a loss of trust as the reason for Bar’s dismissal, Bar himself claims the move is politically motivated and unrelated to the Shin Bet’s acknowledged failures in preventing the attack. Adding fuel to the fire, Bar’s predecessor, Nadav Argaman, threatened to release sensitive information about Netanyahu if the prime minister is found to have broken the law, prompting a police complaint from Netanyahu for blackmail.
