Mon Mar 17 02:29:35 UTC 2025: ## Fort Kochi Bus Stand’s Deteriorating Condition Sparks Outrage
**KOCHI, March 17, 2025** – The dilapidated condition of the Fort Kochi bus stand, located opposite the RDO office, has drawn sharp criticism from commuters and bus operators. The bus stand, owned by the Kochi Corporation, has been neglected for over a decade, leading to complaints about unsanitary conditions and safety hazards.
S. Padmanabha Mallya, secretary of the West Kochi Passengers Association, highlighted the poor state of the bus stand and its unkempt pay-and-use toilet. He expressed concern that the deteriorating conditions, coupled with the unmaintained beachfront, could negatively impact Fort Kochi’s image as a popular tourist destination.
Bus operators also voiced their displeasure. K.B. Suneer of the Private Bus Operators Association urged the Corporation to take immediate action to improve the safety and usability of the bus stand and its toilets. K.M. Navas drew a parallel to the similarly neglected bus stand in Aluva, despite the municipality collecting user fees.
Antony Xavier, a commuter, described the chaotic situation at the bus stand and the adjacent ro-ro ferry terminal, attributing it to poor planning and the delayed road and drain redevelopment by the CSML. He cited a recent incident where a foreign tourist suffered head injuries after falling on an uneven stretch.
Kochi Corporation sources attributed the lack of maintenance to insufficient funding from the State government. The situation underscores the urgent need for repairs and improvements to the crucial transport hub in the heart of Fort Kochi.
