Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, March 16, 2025 – The stalled “Happiness Project,” a flagship housing project in Amaravati, is set to resume construction after years of delay under the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government. The project, initially estimated at ₹714 crore, will now proceed with a revised cost of ₹930 crore due to delays and neglect.
The project, comprising 1200 flats across 12 towers, was initiated in 2018 by the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s government. However, after the YSRCP came to power, the project was stalled, with the government citing issues and employing multiple rounds of reverse tendering. This resulted in significant cost overruns and hardship for the 1,183 individuals who had already booked flats and paid initial deposits.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has now intervened, directing the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to absorb the increased costs, ensuring that buyers pay only the originally agreed-upon price from 2018. The NCC has been awarded the contract to complete the project. The CRDA is also undertaking the removal of accumulated water from the construction site, with completion expected within ten days. The project is slated for completion by December 2021, as per the revised agreement.
The CM’s decision to absorb the additional costs averts a potential legal battle with buyers who were seeking compensation for the project’s delays. The project’s revival is seen as a significant step towards the revitalization of Amaravati’s development under the current coalition government.
