Sun Mar 16 19:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Donaldson’s Buzzer-Beater Sends Michigan to Big Ten Championship Game

**Indianapolis, IN –** In a dramatic finish to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, Michigan guard Tre Donaldson’s last-second layup propelled the Wolverines to an 81-80 victory over Maryland on Saturday. The thrilling win sends Michigan to the championship game against Wisconsin on Sunday.

With seconds remaining, Maryland’s Derik Queen hit two free throws to give the Terrapins the lead. However, Michigan quickly advanced the ball to Donaldson, who executed a breathtaking coast-to-coast drive, weaving past four Maryland defenders for the game-winning basket. Maryland had no time to respond.

“Coach drew up the play for me to make a play for my teammates and myself,” Donaldson said in a post-game interview. “My teammates put me in a great situation and I was able to finish it, but all glory goes to God.” Donaldson finished with 12 points, nine assists, and three rebounds. Vladislav Goldin led Michigan with 25 points, while Queen topped all scorers with 31 for Maryland.

The loss continues a frustrating trend for Maryland, who have now lost eight games this season by six points or fewer, five of which were decided in the final ten seconds.

Michigan, who defeated Wisconsin earlier this season, will look to secure the Big Ten Tournament title on Sunday. Both teams are projected as high as a No. 3 seed and as low as a No. 5 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, with a victory potentially boosting Michigan’s seeding.
