**DHAKA, BANGLADESH** – Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser and head of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, will embark on a visit to China later this month, culminating in a meeting with President Xi Jinping on March 28th. The visit, announced Sunday, is expected to significantly strengthen relations between Dhaka and Beijing.
Yunus’s trip, beginning March 26th, will include an address at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference on March 27th, where he will discuss Asia’s evolving global role. The BFA is an initiative involving 25 Asian nations and Australia. Bilateral issues of mutual interest will be discussed during his meeting with President Xi.
According to Yunus’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, the Bangladeshi government aims to elevate its relationship with China, hoping to establish Bangladesh as a significant manufacturing hub. Alam indicated that the Chinese government views this visit as highly important. The visit follows an earlier meeting between Yunus and the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen.
