Sun Mar 16 16:54:40 UTC 2025: ## Kalaburagi District Braces for Severe Water Shortage

**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, March 16, 2025** – Over 262 villages in Kalaburagi district are expected to face acute water shortages this summer, according to the Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Department. The district administration is implementing a comprehensive plan to mitigate the crisis, which is already impacting 69 villages.

The most severely affected taluks are Aland (72 villages projected to be affected), Afzalpur (37), and Kalagi (28). The number of affected villages is projected to rise to 165 in April and peak at 262 in May.

The plan includes reviving defunct borewells. Currently, 454 of the district’s 1,190 borewells are non-functional, an increase from 357 last year. The authorities will undertake flushing and re-drilling works on 355 borewells. Additionally, the administration plans to utilize 323 privately owned borewells, supplying water to affected villages via tankers.

The situation highlights a growing concern over water scarcity in the region, prompting proactive measures from the district administration to ensure potable water supply throughout the summer months.
