**ALAPPUZHA, March 16, 2025** – A 30-year-old man was killed by a lightning strike while playing cricket in a paddy field in Edathua, Kuttanad, Kerala on Sunday. Akhil Sreenivasan was reportedly speaking on his mobile phone when lightning struck the group of young men around 4 p.m. His phone is said to have exploded upon impact.

While Akhil was rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Two others in the group sustained burns. Police are investigating the incident.
