Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu – March 16, 2025 – Seven men have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a ₹60 lakh alexandrite gemstone and cash from a gemstone businessman in Ramanathapuram district. The robbery occurred near the Ramanathapuram railway station in January.
Police investigations revealed that P. Muniyasamy, a Madurai-based gemstone dealer, had attempted to sell a valuable alexandrite stone through a series of brokers. The transaction was ultimately arranged with Abu Dahir of Ramanathapuram. When Muniyasamy arrived at the designated meeting point, he was attacked and robbed of the gemstone, its receipt, a mobile phone, and ₹15,000 cash.
Following a complaint, a special police team led by Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh launched an investigation. The team apprehended seven suspects: M. Abudahir (Theni), A. Muhammad Azarudhin (Sivaganga), S. Muhammad Navubal (Sivaganga), S. Muthuselvam, N. Raja Joshkumar, K. Kanagaraj, and another K. Kanagaraj (all from Thoothukudi). The arrested individuals are currently facing charges related to the robbery. The recovered gemstone has not been mentioned in the report.
