**New Delhi, March 16, 2025** – India and New Zealand have announced the resumption of negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA), marking a significant step forward after a decade-long standstill. The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), initially launched in 2010, had stalled in 2015 after nine rounds of talks.
The announcement, made following a meeting between Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment Todd McClay, coincides with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s four-day visit to India. Both nations expressed their commitment to achieving a balanced and mutually beneficial FTA that will enhance supply chain integration and improve market access. The renewed negotiations aim to boost trade in goods, services, and investment between the two countries.
