Sun Mar 16 03:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Doohan Faces Four-Driver Battle for Alpine F1 Seat
**Melbourne, Australia** – Formula 1 rookie Jack Doohan is facing intense pressure heading into the Australian Grand Prix, acknowledging that all four of Alpine’s reserve drivers are vying for his seat. The Australian driver, making his first full F1 season debut at Albert Park this weekend, admitted that the arrival of highly-rated Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, along with Paul Aron, Ryo Hirakawa, and Kush Maini, has heightened the stakes.
“I think I have to perform each and every time I’m in the car, regardless,” Doohan stated at Thursday’s pre-race press conference. He clarified that the competition isn’t solely with Colapinto: “If you didn’t realise we have four reserve drivers. All four of them, not just Franco, probably wants my seat, and if not Pierre’s [Gasly] as well.”
Colapinto, who boasts strong sponsor backing and scored points in his nine races with Williams last year, is seen as a significant threat. Doohan, son of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan, emphasized his determination to succeed, declaring his intention to “enjoy every race as if it’s my last.”
Speculation surrounding Doohan’s future has been rife, with some pundits suggesting he has only a limited number of races to prove his worth to the French team. Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore previously indicated that Doohan’s position, alongside teammate Pierre Gasly, would be evaluated throughout the season.
Fellow Australian and McLaren driver Oscar Piastri offered Doohan his support. “It’s always great to have another Aussie, and I think Jack has proved in his junior career that he deserves a chance,” Piastri commented. He acknowledged the significant challenge of transitioning into an F1 seat after time away, emphasizing the need for patience and learning. The Australian Grand Prix promises to be a crucial test for Doohan as he fights to secure his place in Formula 1.
