**Guwahati, March 16, 2025** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah will convene a meeting on Sunday with Chief Ministers from the Northeastern states to assess the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the replacement for the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The meeting, taking place in Guwahati, will include representatives from Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim. Manipur’s representation remains uncertain due to the state being under President’s rule following the recent resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
Prior to the meeting, Shah will address the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) in Kokrajhar. The ABSU was a key signatory to the Bodo Peace Accord five years ago. Shah’s weekend itinerary also included a visit to the Assam Rifles program in Mizoram and the inauguration of the upgraded Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Golaghat. He arrived in Assam on Friday and will depart for New Delhi on Sunday evening. Each state will present a progress report on the BNS implementation during the meeting.
