**Bengaluru, India –** In the largest drug seizure in Karnataka’s history, Mangaluru police arrested two Nigerian women at Bengaluru airport on Sunday. Bamba Fanta (31) and Abigail Adonis (30) were apprehended with over 37 kilograms of MDMA, valued at a staggering Rs 75 crore (approximately $9 million USD).
The women, who resided in Delhi, arrived from Delhi on a domestic flight. Their trolley bags contained the illicit drugs. Police also confiscated four mobile phones, passports, and Rs 18,000 in cash.
According to Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, the women had been operating a drug smuggling ring for one to two years, using air travel to transport MDMA across India. Authorities revealed that the pair had made approximately 37 trips to Mumbai and 22 to Bengaluru in the past year. Fanta entered India on a business visa in 2020, while Adonis has been residing in the country since 2016.
The arrests followed a six-month investigation that began with the arrest of Haider Ali in Mangaluru with a smaller amount of MDMA. This led police to another Nigerian national, Peter, who was apprehended in Bengaluru with 6 kg of MDMA. Further investigation implicated Fanta and Adonis in a larger drug trafficking operation. The investigation is ongoing.
