Sat Mar 15 13:57:51 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Faces Severe Heatwave, Schools Declare Half-Day

**Visakhapatnam, March 15, 2025** – A severe heatwave has gripped North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, prompting authorities to declare a half-day for schools and take precautionary measures for upcoming Class X examinations. Temperatures in areas like Bheemunipatnam and Simhachalam reached 37°C, with the heatwave expected to continue through March 17.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a severe heatwave warning for over 30 mandals across four districts – Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram-Manyam, and Alluri Seetharama Raju. The warning highlights that 43 mandals are at risk on March 16 and 17, with 34 mandals facing the same threat on March 17 alone. Nineteen mandals already experienced severe heatwave conditions on March 15.

To mitigate the impact on students, particularly those taking Class X exams starting March 17, the Education Department has been instructed to ensure the availability of ORS packets, buttermilk, and water at all examination centers. The early onset of intense heat, even before the end of March, signals a potentially harsh summer ahead for the region.
