Sat Mar 15 01:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Las Vegas Area Braces for Winter Storm Impact, Eclipse Looms

**LAS VEGAS, NV –** A winter storm sweeping through Southern California is bringing rain, strong winds, and mountain snow to the Las Vegas Valley. The storm prompted chain and snow tire restrictions on State Routes 156, 157, and 158, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

A wind advisory is in effect until 8 PM, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph. A winter storm warning is also in place for the Spring and Sheep Mountains, where significant snowfall is expected, potentially exceeding a foot at higher elevations like Lee Canyon. The valley itself is expected to receive only light rain, less than a tenth of an inch. Temperatures will remain cool, peaking around 56 degrees.

While the valley’s rainfall will be minimal, the storm’s impact is already being felt, with rain reported in Pahrump and snow in the Spring Mountains and Lee Canyon. The storm’s lingering effects will bring a slight chance of showers Friday, with temperatures remaining cool in the 50s. Warmer temperatures in the 60s and low 70s are forecast for the weekend.

Adding to the day’s events, a total lunar eclipse is predicted for Thursday night. Valley residents have about a 50 percent chance of clear enough skies to view the eclipse.
