**Vadodara, Gujarat, March 14, 2025** – A speeding car driven by a 20-year-old law student resulted in a fatal accident early Friday morning in Vadodara, Gujarat. One woman, Hemali Patel, was killed instantly, and four others sustained injuries when the vehicle crashed into their scooters near Muktanand crossroads.
The driver, Rakshit Chaurasiya, a law student from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that Chaurasiya appeared intoxicated, shouting “another round, another round” after exiting the wrecked car. Police are investigating whether drunk driving was a contributing factor and will conduct a blood alcohol test.
The car belonged to Chaurasiya’s friend, Mit Chauhan, who was a passenger. Chauhan is currently being sought by police. A bystander’s video shows Chauhan exiting the vehicle and blaming Chaurasiya for the accident, while Chaurasiya remains incoherent. The video also depicts Chaurasiya being beaten by onlookers before police arrived.
CCTV footage corroborates eyewitness accounts, showing the car striking two scooters at high speed, knocking down the riders and dragging them before stopping. While Chaurasiya possesses a driving licence, police state that speeding was a primary factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
