BILBAO, SPAIN – Tensions flared outside the San Mamés stadium before the AS Roma vs. Athletic Bilbao match, resulting in clashes between rival fans. Approximately 10-15 meters separated the two groups before Basque police intervened with dispersal charges, targeting both Roma and Athletic Bilbao supporters. The incident, lasting about 15 minutes starting at 5:30 PM near Gate 21 (the Roma fans’ entrance), involved the throwing of fireworks and flares. Police used batons to push Roma fans into the stadium, preventing a major confrontation. Around 200 Roma fans had already entered the stadium to avoid the conflict. Further skirmishes occurred near Gate Zero, requiring additional police intervention. Inside the stadium, some Roma fans attempted to leave to assist those still outside, prompting police to contain them within the stadium.
