Thu Mar 13 18:25:48 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Launches Extensive Solar-Powered Fence to Protect Wildlife

**Thrissur, Kerala – March 14, 2025** – The Kerala government announced a significant initiative to promote harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife, unveiling an 18-kilometer solar-powered hanging fence along the Chalakudy River. This project, a collaboration between the Forest and Wildlife Department and NABARD, aims to protect wildlife and cost ₹2.24 crore.

The fence, stretching from Virippara to Kannan Kuzhi Thodu, is the first of its kind in Kerala in terms of scale. A larger plan to install approximately 80 kilometers of similar fencing across the Chalakudy-Vazhachal divisions is also underway. Forest and Wildlife Minister A.K. Saseedaran inaugurated the project on Thursday, highlighting the government’s increased focus on water conservation within forest areas. Chalakudy MLA Sanish Kumar Joseph presided over the inaugural ceremony at the Arurmuzhi Community Hall. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to various initiatives promoting harmonious coexistence of forests, wildlife, and humanity.
