**BIG BEAR, CA** – A blizzard brought a challenging but beautiful backdrop to the hatching of a third bald eagle eaglet in Big Bear’s famous nest. Jackie and Shadow, the resident eagle couple, welcomed their third chick on March 8th, 2025, completing their brood of three healthy newborns.
The arrival coincided with a significant snowstorm, testing the resilience of the devoted parents. Despite the harsh conditions, Jackie remained steadfastly in the nest, providing warmth and protection to her vulnerable offspring. Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) lauded Jackie’s dedication, noting her unwavering commitment to keeping the eaglets safe and warm throughout the storm.
The couple’s tireless efforts continued even amidst the snowfall. On March 12th, they fed their chicks twelve times, a typical feeding frequency for eaglets at this stage of development. FOBBV also reported observing some expected sibling rivalry as the eaglets compete for food.
While the eaglets are still developing their vision and coordination, they are growing stronger daily. The snow-covered nest provided a dramatic yet heartwarming illustration of nature’s challenges and the unwavering strength of parental instinct. FOBBV has announced plans to soon solicit name suggestions for the three new additions to Big Bear’s iconic eagle family.
