**Imphal, Manipur –** A Manipur-based YouTuber, identified as Pt Marvin Kuki (@PaotinmangChongloi), is facing scrutiny after appearing in a new video where he verbally attacked security forces during recent protests in the violence-stricken state. The video, uploaded to his YouTube channel, shows Kuki shouting at security personnel, urging them to leave the area and threatening further conflict if they remain. His actions have prompted the cyber cell to investigate.
This isn’t Kuki’s first controversial appearance. Last year, he posted a video (since deleted) showing him wielding an assault rifle and daring the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to arrest him. In another video, he issued violent threats against the Meitei community following clashes in Jiribam in November 2024. These videos have drawn attention to Kuki’s role in escalating tensions.
The March 8th protests, where Kuki’s latest video was filmed, saw clashes between Kuki tribespeople and security forces attempting to maintain free movement of people, as mandated by the central government. One protester was killed and multiple others, including security personnel, were injured. While convoys carrying essential supplies passed through without incident in some areas, protests blocked routes in others.
Kuki’s actions are not isolated. Sources indicate that numerous individuals from both Meitei and Kuki militant groups have used social media to display weaponry and make inflammatory statements, further exacerbating the ongoing conflict. While some groups, such as the Arambai Tenggol, have claimed to have surrendered their weapons following a governor’s order, the continued presence of such videos remains a concern for authorities.
The conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, which began in May 2023, has resulted in over 250 deaths and the displacement of nearly 50,000 people. The dispute centers around land rights and political representation, with Kuki leaders demanding a separate administration. The situation is further complicated by the continued presence of armed groups and the inflammatory rhetoric circulating on social media. Authorities have warned of strong action against those who continue to incite violence online.
