Fri Mar 14 16:10:58 UTC 2025: ## China, Russia, and Iran Demand End to US Sanctions on Iran
**Tehran, March 14, 2025** – Representatives from China, Russia, and Iran issued a joint statement today demanding an end to all U.S. sanctions against Iran, citing them as unlawful and unilateral. The call follows a recent attempt by U.S. President Donald Trump to restart stalled multinational talks on Iran’s nuclear program, including an unpublished letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While Trump has imposed new sanctions as part of a “maximum pressure” campaign, he has also indicated a willingness to negotiate a new deal.
The three nations emphasized that diplomatic engagement based on mutual respect is the only viable path forward. The statement was read by China’s Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, alongside Russian and Iranian counterparts. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is also expected to meet with the representatives.
Despite Khamenei previously dismissing talks with the U.S. government, Iranian officials have sent mixed signals regarding negotiations. The current situation underscores the complex geopolitical landscape, with China and Russia, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, maintaining close ties with Iran through energy deals and military cooperation.
Iran’s uranium enrichment level, currently at 60%—near weapons-grade—is a major point of contention. This sharply contrasts with the 3.67% limit imposed under the 2015 nuclear deal, from which the U.S. withdrew in 2018. The International Atomic Energy Agency’s latest report shows Iran’s uranium stockpile exceeding 8,000 kilograms, far surpassing the 300-kilogram limit set in the 2015 accord.
While Iran maintains its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, the country’s actions and rhetoric have fueled international concern. The U.S. sanctions, meanwhile, have severely impacted Iran’s economy, leading to domestic protests. China’s increasing involvement in Middle Eastern affairs is also a key factor in the ongoing developments.
