**New Delhi, March 13, 2025** – A new survey reveals that a significant portion of Indians believe Europe offers better job opportunities than India, driven by higher wages, career growth prospects, and a more appealing lifestyle. The study, conducted by Lokniti-CSDS in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, found that 63% of respondents believe Europe provides superior employment prospects.
This perception is particularly strong among residents of smaller towns (72%), likely due to limited job opportunities in those areas. The allure of Europe extends beyond simple higher salaries; the survey indicates that 62% of respondents believe European workers earn more for the same job. This belief is further amplified among those with family members working in Europe.
The study highlights several key factors contributing to this perception. These include structured career growth opportunities, access to high-skilled jobs, and attractive government policies in countries like Germany, the UK, and France that encourage skilled migration. Additionally, superior healthcare, public infrastructure, and social welfare benefits contribute to the perception of a better lifestyle in Europe. Exposure to Western media further reinforces this positive image.
The desire for better prospects is translating into action, with 15% of respondents stating their intention to apply for a European work visa. The primary motivations cited were higher wages (38%), career growth (21%), and access to better infrastructure (7%).
The findings suggest a strong trend of aspirational migration to Europe among Indian professionals, particularly younger and more educated individuals. The researchers emphasize the influence of personal networks, media portrayals, and the success stories of Indian expatriates in shaping this perception.
