Thu Mar 13 04:28:40 UTC 2025: ## SP MLA Complies with Court Order in Aurangzeb Remarks Case

**Mumbai, March 13, 2025** – Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abu Asim Azmi appeared at the Marine Drive police station today as directed by the Mumbai Sessions Court, following his controversial remarks about Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The court granted him anticipatory bail on Tuesday, requiring him to report to the station for three consecutive days.

Mr. Azmi, who appeared on the first of these days, maintained his innocence, stating that the allegations against him are baseless. He criticized his suspension from the legislative session and the public labeling him a terrorist, emphasizing his continued commitment to his work.

The controversy stems from remarks Mr. Azmi made last week within the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, sparking widespread condemnation and prompting police to register a case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to murder and rioting.

While Mr. Azmi’s legal team contends the charges are unfounded, the police investigation continues. The case highlights the sensitivity of historical figures in contemporary Indian politics and has ignited significant debate.
