Thu Mar 13 01:40:32 UTC 2025: ## Bangladeshi Official Claims Country Under Terrorist Attack, Seeks International Intervention

**Kolkata, India** – Dr. Rabbi Alam, US Awami League Vice President and close aide to ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has accused Bangladesh of being under a “terrorist uprising,” not a simple political one, and called for international intervention. Speaking from Kolkata, India, where he and other Hasina family members are currently in exile, Alam thanked India for providing refuge and safe passage for Hasina following her ouster on August 5th.

Alam’s statements come amidst escalating tensions. This week, a Dhaka court ordered the seizure of Hasina’s residence and numerous family properties and bank accounts, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The Bangladesh government also recently lodged a formal protest with India, expressing concern over Hasina’s alleged use of social media to incite instability. Furthermore, in January, an arrest warrant was issued for Hasina and others related to allegations of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

Alam expressed confidence in Hasina’s eventual return to power, blaming the current situation on the “manipulation” of the young generation. He also demanded the resignation of the current Bangladeshi advisor, calling for their return to their country of origin.

The turmoil began in August, when student-led protests and clashes, resulting in over 600 deaths, led to Hasina’s removal from power. A Nobel Laureate, Muhammad Yunus, now heads the interim government. Alam’s claims of a “terrorist uprising” remain unverified, but the situation in Bangladesh is clearly fraught with political instability and legal challenges for the Hasina family.
